Bahamas Tourist Attractions

The Bahamas Tourist Office states, "It's Better in the Bahamas." Why is the Bahamas annually the most traveled to of the so-called Caribbean Islands?

A chain of hundreds of islands, only a few of the Bahamian Islands are inhabited, and even fewer are tourist destinations. Although Bimini is the Bahamian Island closest to the United States, the closest of the "tourist" Bahamian Islands is Grand Bahama Island. The major cities on Grand Bahama Island are Freeport and Lucaya. Grand Bahama Island was originally predominantly developed as a tourist destination, and because of that there was limited non- tourist industry on the island. There are four separate monuments on the island that show where Columbus landed. By far the most populated and developed of the Bahamian Islands is New Providence Island. Nassau, Cable Beach, Paradise Island, South Ocean, etc., are all located on New Providence Island. The South Ocean side of the island is where Stuart Coves Diving is housed, and Stuart is world renowned for his diving expertise and movie production consultation. Because of that, many water scenes have been shot on this island. Nassau has one of the largest cruise ports of any of the islands, and more cruise ships visit Nassau than any other island. There are many great Bahamian out islands, such as Eleuthera, Exuma, etc., that offer their own distinctive flavor, so if someone wanted a vacation that part of the time was spent on a "quiet" island, while spending part on an "active" island, a multi- island visit is accessible and easy, both by boat and by intra- island air flights.

Why are the Bahamas so popular? First, these islands are close, and a much shorter plane ride from the US than most other islands. Second, the islands are traditionally safe and friendly, and the Bahamian government makes a major effort to make the islands tourist- friendly. Why is it better in the Bahamas? Because these islands try to make tourists visit and come back. In fact, the Bahamas has one of the largest return visit rates of any location.

Andros Island also has a lighthouse on the southern end of the island. The next island in a tour of the Bahamas is Bimini. Grand Bahama Island offers visitors a plethora of non-beach related activities. Hamilton's Cave is an interesting location to explore. Paradise Island is home to the Ardastra Gardens and Conservation Center. For those who enjoy military history, there are several historic forts to visit on Paradise Island, including Fort Charlotte, Fort Fincastle and Fort Montagu.

Sailing vacations in the Bahamas are mainly conducted on yachts. Both small and big yachts ply the coasts of Bahamas carrying people in groups of all sizes. Daytimes are spent exploring the various cays in the Bahamian waters. People also go snorkeling in the Bahamian waters. The greatest appeal of the Bahamas lies in the clear azure waters that envelop the entire island. Even beachcombing is a wonderful pastime on the pristine beaches of the Bahamas.

Popular stops in the Bahamas are the Green Turtle Cay, Great Guana Cay, Man-o'-War Cay, Tahiti Beach and Hope Town. The Bahamas are also popular for their regattas. The Bahamas are like tropical islands. Located on the northeastern side of the Caribbean, Bahamas is an archipelago of 29 islands. Situated on the Nassau Island, the resort houses the largest aquarium in the world. Paradise and Cable beaches are the two must visit beaches here. You can also visit from Nassau to Andros Island, another in this group of islands is known for snorkeling and diving. Blue Lagoon Island is another hotspot for tourists. Respond to the call of Bahamas.
